According to the latest statistics by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), Vietnam currently has more than 8,500 hotels, but only around 300 of them meet standards for 3-5 star hotels.
This information was released at an international workshop on hotel management technology in the central city of Da Nang on September 17, which attracted the Asia-Pacific Development Director of SynXis-Sabre Group, the General Director of the D’mension South East Asia and representatives of over 50 hotels and tourism firms in Da Nang, Quang Nam and Thua Thien-Hue. While Vietnam has only around 300 hotels of 3-5 star standard, its neighbour Thailand owns up to nearly 1,000 hotels in this range. Only 30% of luxury hotels in Vietnam apply advanced technology in management, advertising and business. The remaining hotels use manpower, resulting in higher costs and low business efficiency. In the central region, hotel room occupancy rate is 50%, which is very low compared to the average of Vietnam and the region. According to experts, Vietnamese hotels need to apply modern technology to cut costs and enhance profit. (Source: VOV)
